The main restrictions you have in participating in the world's oldest democratic republic is in your ability to vote and your ability to donate to election campaigns. You are most definitely allowed to go to a rally and press your case to the government.
Immigration Voice has released the following advisory for those attending:
Travel Advisory for the Sept 18th Rally/Parade
Dear Member: As you know, the route of the rally on Sept 18th is from Washington Monument to Capitol Hill in downtown Washington DC. Please use the following advisory for travel to and from rally and related events. Everyone must arrive at the Washington Monument at around 9:00 AM on 18th. The march would begin at 11:00 AM and end at 12:30 PM. We will gather on Capitol Hill grounds and stay there from 12:30 thru 2:30 PM.
Same day travelers: You have to arrive at Washington Monument at 9:00 AM where this event begins and leave the event from Capitol Hill, when it ends at 2:30 PM.
Arrival Advisory
For people arriving at the Washington Monument via WMATA Metro Rail/Bus
There are two close Metro Stations to the Washington Monument Grounds. From your location reach one of the below metro stations. Please use the trip planner on WMATA Home page.
(1) Smithsonian Metro Station (closest by walk)
(2) Federal Triangle Metro Station
Both the stations are 0.4 miles from the monument grounds and are on both Orange & Blue Metro Lines. See the map here on WMATA website and familiarize yourselves before you get on to the train.

(1) Take the Blue line train (towards Largo Town Center) from DCA to Smithsonian to avoid transfers on the Metro.
(2) Use Walking directions from Smithsonian above to reach the Washington Monument grounds.
From Washing Dulles International Airport (IAD)
(1) Take the 5a bus from IAD at curb 2E to L'Enfant plaza Metro Station.
(2) Get down at the Rossyln Metro Station and Take the Blue line Metro towards Largo Town Center.
(3) Get down at Smithsonian Metro and Follow the Walking directions from Smithsonian listed above
From Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI)

You can say to your current employer that you want to try out something new, but if it doesn't work out you want to have the option of coming back.
If they like you enough, they will consider it. How long to leave it active is another question. Lets say you were able to port the PD to your new I140. If the old employer then revokes the I140, are you still ok with the old PD?

I interfiled (ROW) in December, I'm not sure if they applied it.
When I spoke with an IO they seemed clueless about interfiling, thinking that new I485 had to be filed -- plain wrong. So be prepared to check up on them a month after filing. They should be able to tell you if the I140 is assigned to a I485. For me it is academic now because as of March I'll be within PD for EB3 or EB2.

I told it because the same way my spouse received SSN# < 10days but those people will say it take minimum 15days or so.But before you go to SSN office you need proof of EAD approval or best is EAD card,passport handly.

The company (one of the big companies in the valley) couldn't pay her because she doesn't have her SSN. The company cannot keep the money as she is legally employed, and has worked. So, not paying her that month will break the H1B terms. Luckily for us, SSN arrived on 29th of that month!!

I agree about your comment on guest workers. But h1bs are also human beings. Rather than treating them like car imported from Japan treat them humane. Don't just think of h1bs as a number. There is a human being behind them. Its not easy to just uproot everything you have since last 10yrs and move back to where you came. This is not a treatment for a "guest".
Also how humane is this for a country touting horn of human rights all over the world (read Tibet/China)?

If you are coming back to US to work for the same H1 employer, then re-entering on AP does not invalidate your H1. Yes, after coming back you can file for a H1 COE petition.

Dear Friends, My sincerest hopes and prayers that EB2-I dates advance my PD is Jul 2007 and we narrowly missed the Jul 07 windfall. I hope our wait for EAD & AP ends this year!

What do you mean by PERM was done in 60 days? Do you know the login name & password of the employer. I mean the IT guy will need the login name to answer any querry else he can not pull any info.
How come there was no receipt. Was it filed at all or was rejected by the computer & you do not know that?
